Mark was an All-State athlete in two sports while attending Mahomet-Seymour High School and went on to be an All-American at the collegiate level.

Mark only ran two years of cross-country yet he is in the IHSA record books as one of the greatest cross-country runners of his time. Mark was an All-State runner in 1974. He holds the fifth highest dual meet wins for a career in IHSA history. He also holds the 2nd most dual meet wins in one season with 18.

Mark also excelled in track. He was All-State in both the one mile and two mile in 1975. The News-Gazette has kept track and field records for this area for nearly 100 years and he is near the top with his track times in the 1600 and 3200 meters. He is also at the top of the Pantagraph’s all-time area list for track and cross-country.

Mark continued to run at University of Wisconsin at Stevens Point where he became an All-American in cross country and track.

Mark held the 1600, 3200, and numerous cross-country records at Mahomet-Seymour for nearly 40 years. He set the standard for both programs.

Mark is also known for his great character. He is humble, kind, and caring to all. He was and still is respected by area coaches and athletes not only for his ability, but for his character.
