Brett set the standard of basketball excellence in multiple areas of the game while playing for the Mahomet-Seymour Bulldogs. Brett was an integral part of the only Mahomet-Seymour Junior High Basketball State Championship Team in 1996.

In high school, Brett was a 4-year letter winner. He had set records that still stand today nearly two decades later. Brett is 1st in points (1,872), 1st in points in a season (645), 1st in career 3-pointers (267), 1st in 3 pointers in a season (94) and 1st in 3 pointers in a game (9). Brett gives credit to his father (Mike) for his great 3 point shooting ability. “My Father” he said, “taught me to shoot the right way.” “ I didn’t make many shots, but I kept shooting the right way.” He was thought to be one of the best 3 point shooters in the nation after his senior year.

Brett averaged 18 points 4.5 rebounds and 3 assists for his high School career. He averaged 24.9 points a game his senior year. As a junior he set the News Gazette Holiday Tournament Scoring Record with 112 points in 3 games, making an amazing 22 of 35 three pointers.

Brett was a two time Central Illinois Basketball Player of the Year. He was the two time Champaign News Gazette All Area Player of the Year in 1999 and 2000. He was All State First Team Selection his Senior Year and Second Team his Junior year. He finished his high school career being ranked 7th in Illinois and 78th in the nation by noted basketball talent evaluator Bob Gibbons.

Brett received a full scholarship to play basketball at the University of Illinois after graduating from M-S High School in 2000. He played for two years on Illinois teams that had a combined record of 53 wins and 17 losses. Won 2 Big Ten Championships and reached the elite 8 in the 2000-01 season and sweet 16 in 2001-02 season. He was injured and would transfer to the University of San Diego Where he played basketball for two years from 2003-2005. There he would have a career total of 545 points and be on the West Coast Champion Conference Basketball team. In 2004 he was ranked 21st on 3 point shots made for the San Diego University Basketball team.

Upon graduation from San Diego with a degree in communications and minor in business in 2005 and an MBA in 2009. He had a brief professional career in California and Mexico.

Today he has founded “All Net” a youth basketball program in San Diego. He is married to world renowned Penny Artist Talia Hayward and has three children which include a pair of twins born this March. He is the vice-president of “Thankful Thinking” a non-profit organization that helps empower underprivileged children through arts and sports.
